Welcome to the official website of the Crooked River Lighthouse and the Carrabelle Lighthouse Association. The Crooked River Lighthouse was constructed in 1895 to replace the lighthouse on Dog Island that was destroyed by hurricane in 1873. The 103 foot tall iron and steel structure was decommissioned by the U.S. Coast Guard in 1995. In 1999, despite its inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places, the Coast Guard had plans to surplus the lighthouse and auction it off to the highest bidder. It was at this time that the Carrabelle Lighthouse Association (CLA) was formed by a dedicated group of local citizens with the goal of preserving, restoring, and opening the lighthouse to the public. The Carrabelle Lighthouse Association continues to work toward restoring and preserving this piece of Florida's maritime history. If you would like to help, please join the CLA today.
The CLA is seeking volunteers to help with our many upcoming events. Become part of the FUN!!!!! If you're interested in volunteering, email us at sea_lght@yahoo.com. |
